Diagnosed With Mild Cardiomegaly

i was diagnosed of having mild cardiomegaly and i think i acquire this through hereditary and my uncontrolled high blood pressure. right now my blood pressure is 147/88 and im having a slight palpitation. what medicine should i take or maintain? do i have to stop smoking?

I would like to know your age, gender, ethnicity and since how long you have been having uncontrolled high blood pressure. I would also like to enquire about your medications and about any co-morbid conditions like diabetes or renal disease.

You may be started initially on drugs like Calcium Channel Blockers (amlodipine, cilnidipine) or/and ACEI/ARBs (ramipril, losartan etc.). ACEI/ARBs are not very effective in the Afro-American population. I would advise you to get a 12 lead ECG and blood for lipid profile done. You need to consult your physician/cardiologist for this. Your physician may ask you to get some more important tests done.

You definitely need to quit smoking as soon as possible, since it is an important risk factor for coronary artery disease.
