Diagnosed With Pericentral Retinitis Pigmentosa. Have Decent Eyesight. Have Loss Of Peripheral Vision. Vitamin A Harmful?

Hi,

I was diagnosed with Pericentral Retinitis Pigmentosa in June, and still have pretty decent eyesight, can drive etc, but have some loss of peripheral vision, from about 10 degrees to 30 degrees to side. I've heard mixed reviews about vitamin A supplementation. Some studies say that Vit A can even cause harmful issues with RP patients, any suggestions?

Hi...
Thanks for the query...
Nice to hear that your vision is good..
Vit A is not at all harmful.. You can take it as supplement in recommended dose..
But it is just a supportive therapy..
There can be gradual and slow diminution of vision with time as well as restriction of field of vision..
There can be early development of a cataract..
But don't worry .. There can be fairly good vision for a long time..
Keep consulting your doctor on a regular basis or if you find any problem of recent onset..
Take care..
