Could Vegetative State Of A Person Be Due To Pneumonia?
Hi y father had a ruptured aneurysm on april.26 and was really bad, was on life support they had to do a coil procedure b/c his brain was too swelled, and then about 5 days later he woke up and knew me and was squeezing my hand and he had pneumonia and it is now almost 7 weeks later and is still battling a really bad chest infection, he aspirated about 2 weeks ago, but was worked on and he was responding to people and moving a bit, since last Monday he is now in a vegetative state doesn t wake up or respond to nothing and now dr is saying he is not responding to antibiotics and might have to do a tracheotomy, could that be the reason why he had this major setback?im not getting much answers as of what is going on

It’s heartbreaking to learn about your father’s condition. According to your description he is in good hands, but even the best physicians are also “only” human beings. I’m sure they will do the best they can. Such a progressive course is never a good sign, but medicine is about living biology, not about physical formulas.
That means we see a lot of surprising outcomes, good and bad. Please don’t give up hope too early. Just make sure the doctors give him enough medication to avoid unnecessary suffering from pain. And then let’s hope that your father’s body has the strength to heal itself.
