Could Tingling Numbness And Swelling In The Leg Be A Nerve Problem?

A friend (female, age 55, non-smoker) has been experiencing these symptoms in both legs: tingling, numbness, swelling. She has been to vein doctor. One vein that was larger than it should be (and therefore the valves don t close properly and blood has a harder time circulating), but not significantly. He suggested it might be a nerve issue, esp. since symptoms are in both legs. Do you agree that it may be nerve related?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all it's sad to know what your friend had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, she needs to be evaluated by ultrasound Doppler of lower limbs to rule any clot in the blood vessels. Sugar levels and Thyroid functions may be needed.

Serum electrolytes and B12 and folic acid levels alongside D3 needs to be checked. If the numbness persists nerve conduction studies needs evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
