Could Smoking Cigarettes Effect Wound On Lips?

I recently got stitches on my top lip or as they called it the vermillion border. I received about seven stitches about this time last night. I know how ridiculous this question sounds but I was wondering how smoking cigarettes would affect the wound.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query. First of all we need to understand what exactly is the basis of healing. Healing of wound needs oxygen . With smoking we restrict the supply of oxygen to our body.

When sufficient oxygen doesn't reach the cells of the body they fail to heal properly . It further give rise to another problem that is recurrence of infection which further complicate the situation .

So i would suggest you to avoid smoking and give your wound proper time and condition to heal .

Take vitamin C supplement for speedy healing of wound.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
