Could Persistent Headaches, Chest Pain And Auras Indicate Onset Of Stroke?

I get persistant headaches, chest pain and intermittant auras whenever my BP is over 120/88. I take Verapamil twice a day but it has been up to 161/95 and everywhere in between in the last 3 weeks. Really afraid of stroke. What else can I do - doctor here is not helping as he thinks 135 is great for my age (76).

161/95 is really high blood pressure which you have to control by another medication. You may try diuretics, ace inhibitor group of drugs which are the 1st line drugs at your age if not contraindicated. You have not described whether you have sugar or not. It should be controlled properly and monitor closely. Again high lipid level if preswnt can be controlled by regular exercises and statin group of drugs.
You have not described whether there is any family history of stroke in early age which increases the risk too. Headache chest pain do not indicate stroke. There may be cardiac problems which can be ruled out by doing an ECG. Aura is a nonspecific symptom present in various conditions. Side affect of any drug can cause it.
If you control your blood pressure level within 140/90 with a normal sugar and cholesterol level the risk of stroke would be greatly reduced.
