Could Overdose Of Avil Which Has Led To Nausea And Weakness Affect The Pregnancy?

Hello Doctor, I have tested myself pregnancy positive, donot know the actual fetus live, maybe 2 weeks or 5 weeks... One incident happened with me a few days back...I happened to take an overdose of Avil 25 (almost 10 nos.), but got admitted into a hospital immediately and got necessary medical care. The drug was ejected out of body through urine and I was also given 4 bottles of saline. I am totally fine now. No side effects of ill health. I am a working lady and joined my duties the next day of the incident itself in full health, without any weakness or nausea or sedation. But it is only today that I am tested positive with pregnancy. I am worried now, if the overdose of the drugs will have any effect on the fetus. I want to go ahead with the pregnancy. Will it cause any damage to the baby or lead to the birth of abnormal child.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

Avil (pheniramine) is considered safe during pregnancy, and so as long as the drug was adequately expelled from the body with the help of medical personnel I am hoping there should be nothing wrong, and hopefully it does not affect the fetus. But the point that requires noting here is that it was expelled through your body after getting absorbed, which means it could have reached your fetus as well.

Please continue with the pregnancy for now, and report to a doctor for regular monitoring with the help of ultrasound investigations, quad marker tests, and so on. If any abnormalities are noted, a medical termination of the pregnancy can occur before the 20th week.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
