Could Discomfort In Right Upper Area Below The Ribcage Be Gallbladder Problem?

I am having some discomfort in my right upper area below my rib cage. I m concerned this could be my gallbladder. I was in the hospital in 2012 for gallbladder pain that just sucked the breath outta me. I was told I did not have gallstones but my gallbladder was working slowly. There was no medical reason to remove it so I was given pain meds and sent home. I have not had any trouble since then. As of today I have pain although this feels a bit lower than it was in 2012. It doesn t seem to be low enough to be my appendix but, hey, I m not the doc. If it is my gallbladder are there foods I can eat to heal it or something I can take orally? I do not take any prescription medications, only vitamins, psyllium fiber and flaxseed oil capsules every day.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, discomfort in the right upper area below the rib cage could be a gallbladder problem. The symptoms of gallbladder disease include pain in the upper right abdomen, nausea, vomiting, and bloating. Gallbladder pain can be triggered by certain foods, such as fatty or fried foods, and can sometimes be relieved by changing your diet.

However, if you are experiencing severe or persistent pain, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible, as gallbladder disease can lead to complications such as infection or blockage of the bile duct. Your doctor may recommend dietary changes, medication, or even surgery to treat the underlying issue.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
