Could Diagnosis Of Alzheimer's Be Related To Blocked Carotid Artery?

My husband has been diagnosed with alzheimer's (moderate) however, I just found out that his carotid artery (right side) is 80% blocked and his left side is mildly blocked. Could this attribute to alzheimer's symptoms because of decreased blood flow and oxygen to the brain?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Blocked carotid artery can result in reduction of blood supply to brain and might result in infarctions in brain and with progression of time infarcts result in dementia like symptoms. Multiple infarctions result in multi infarct dementia and this can result in significant cognitive decline. Your husband have right after blockage of about 80% and left side is also mildly blocked so this should be corrected. Alzheimer's like symptoms in your husband are due to these blockages. Please discuss with his doctor for further management.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
