Could Bulky Placenta Cause Problem For The Child?

I am 37 years old, 186 lbs.,and 19 weeks pregnant. I was told that I had a bulky placenta by a high risk O.B.G.Y.N. The reason for high risk visit was due to numbers indicating high risk of Down' Syndrome and my age. The ultrasound indicated no markers for D.S. but showed a bulky placenta. They didn't seem to be overly concerned but the O.B. wants me to come back at 32 weeks. (He is not my regular O.B, but a consulting specialist). What does this mean? Will my baby get enough nutrients and have enogh room to grow properly?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question. Bulky placenta can be due to many causes:
1. Any infection, especially TORCH ( toxoplasmosis, rubella, cytomegalovirus, herpes) or syphilis
2. Fetal anemia due to any cause.
3. Any placental tumour
4. Idiopathic( no cause found)
I suggest you to consult a fetal medicine specialist and get properly investigated by blood investigations and a detailed ultrasound, and get treated accordingly.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
