Could Blood Spot In Eye Be Caused By Shaken Baby Syndrome?

My name is charlene. I am 5'2 and weigh 94 lbs. My daughter came home the other day with my aunt. and when my aunt dropped her off i noticed like a blood spot in the eye. and figured she just scratched herself. I ended up taking her to the hospital and the told me that the red mark in the eye is ONLY caused my shaken baby syndrome. Is this true because my aunt is saying that nothing happened to her but it was not there when i dropped her off. she is only 3 1/2 months old.

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hi Charlene, I am Dr. Richa Sharma and a pediatric ophthalmologist.I understand your worry for your child. Yes, Small red spots in eye can be caused by shaken baby syndrome but not necessarily and it is NOT THE ONLY CAUSE.The most common cause of haemmorage in eye is accidental trauma may be the finger nail of your child or someone else which leads to bleeding of superficial vessels. So, don't worry. just need to be little careful in future.Take care
