Could A Contraceptive Pill Be The Cause For The Delay In Periods?

Hello Doctor, I had unprotected sex on the 9th of March, 2023, I was supposed to see my period on the 10th of March, so I used contrapill on the 10th of March, but since then I haven t seen my period. Could contrapill be the cause of this delay in period? I ll be glad if I can get a quick response from you. Thanks.

Hi,

Contraceptive pill taken can Derringer the hormonal levels in body. This would cause delay in periods till the hormones in pill do not leave your body (this would be about 8-10 days delay in periods). You had sex at the end of menstrual cycle. This can not cause pregnancy, so rest tension free. If there is no period after 10 days delay, you should consult your gynecologist for finding other cause of the delay.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
