Cold And Cough, Given Nurofen, Amoxiline. What Is The Right Dosage For 14 Months Old ?

Hi Dr.
My son is 14 months old, weight around 11kg. He got cold and cough nearly 1 week, now his nose is not very runny, but still cough. He got temerature occasionally, come and go. We saw a GP on Tuesday, he said my son is ok, it should be virus, no need to take medicine. but he got fever last night and this morning with 38 degree at least again, I gave him 5ml Nurofen. We also got amoxiline oral suspension 250mg/5ml for older son, so I gave him 2.5ml spoonful as well (as doctor had ever prescribed Amoxilin 125mg/5ml before for him for treating red swollen throat before)
Please kindly advise if the dosage 2.5ml (250mg/5ml) is fine for 11kg toddler, and how many times we need to take per day, and how long we need to take?

Thank you very much for prompt reply.
regards

Hi thanks for your question.
Dose of any medicine depends upon age, body weight and in case of antibiotics on severity of infection.Dose of amoxicillin range from 20 mg /kg body weight to 90 mg/kg body weight usually 20 mg/kg body weight.Keeping weight of your child in connsideration, dose of amoxicillin for him would be 220 mg / day.You can give him 125 mg that is 2.5 ml twice daily .
Hope this answers your question.
