Child. Sore At The Base Of Nostril, Larger And Infected After Picking Scab. Using Bactroban And Foban Ointment Advised?

My 7 year old son had a sore at the base / in the crease of his nostril and also one just next to it, which he keeps picking at ,and now they have become larger and infected. He has no other sores anywhere else. I have been trying an antiseptic ointment (savlon) on them but it has not healed (probably because he keeps picking the scab). I have both Foban and Bactroban ointments, could I try one of these without consulting my GP, and if so which one? Thanks

Hi,

It appears that your child is having Pyoderma .You can apply either of the two ointment you mentioned as both are good antibacterial ointments.

However if the skin lesion is getting larger and spreading then he will have to be examined by his doctor who might like to add an oral antibiotic to get the infection under control.

Regards.
Take care.
