Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my 21 year old son had emergency surgery today to remove his appendix. However, before they did the surgery they gave him an EKG. They said there was a blip on his EKG and he could possibly have an enlarged heart. They also asked him if anybody in our family suddenly dropped dead because of their heart. The answer to that is no. In the past he has worn heart monitors due to the fact that his heart would sometimes start racing crazy. They said he had tachycardia. He also suffers from cronic OCD and panic attacks. This is a great concern for me, what would cause his heart to become enlarged if indeed it is?
Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query
The fact is that the heart is a pumping organ. it pumps blood from the heart to the body. and this is usually a smooth flow
what happens is that sometimes the path of the blood is relatively blocked. therefore when the blood is pumped it cannot go into the body freely. therefore the heart has to pump extra hard. thus causing the muscles to enlarge.
sometimes the muscles and tissues of the heart are not well or are genetically abnormal and therefore they become looser and looser. the result is that the cavity in the heart becomes large.
now i am not sure from your query which problem is meant by your doctors.
However a simple echo will help find out
I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.
