Can We Give Maxtra, Asthakind And Taxim To Infant For Cold And Cough?

Hello Doctor,

My 3 months old daughter is suffering from cold n cough from past 2 - 3 days. I showed her to a doc here and he prescribed Maxtra, Asthakind, taxim and otrinoz. However after giving these meds for a day that is 3 doses each of maxtra and asthakind (i did not give taxim) i feel her cough has got congested. Please advice if it is alright to be given so many meds to an infant. Should i continue on the meds. We have come over from Hyderabad to Lucknow and do not know of a good paedeatrician here. Your inputs will be very valuable. Please help.

Hello,
Your baby may be suffering from upper respiratory tract infection.Your doctor has prescribed you combination of antihistaminics for cold,Asthakind for allergic cough and one antibiotic to treat the infection as well as one nasal decongestant drops. So you are not using antibiotic taxim which you should use in correct dose as per your doctor prescribed and lets wait for some time for resolution of infection and to control the common cold also it takes atleast 2,3 days.So be patient have the medicines in time and dont worry all these drugs can be used for your baby.Hope this is helpful.
Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks and welcome to HCM .
The treatment you are giving is OK.
You can continue Maxtra till recovery
Better to continue Taxim as advised.
Steam inhalation 2-3times daily is helpful.
avoid cold foods and cool drinks and keep him warm.
Hope this answer serves your purpose.
