Can Thyroid Medications Cause Abnormal Menstrual Bleeding Pattern?

Hello. I have a question. I have been having some irregular bleeding now since Feb 20th. My normal period is around the 20th of each month and last for about 4 days. Well for me it has not stopped. its like a spotting daily. its mostly very little bleeding. but today I had some like thick clots and was flowing like a normal period and has gone back to spotting an hour later. I don t know what to do as my doctor told me it could be my thyroid meds. But she is not all sure. I need some advice :(

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that it is related to thyroid medication.

Abnormal levels of thyroid hormone can result in changes to the frequency or intensity of the period so it may be contributing.

Other causes can be ruled out eg abnormal levels of prolactin, emotional stress or illness, physical illness, polycystic ovarian syndrome

Blood tests and imaging of the uterus with an ultrasound may be helpful as well.

I hope this helps
