Can This Painful Shin Swelling Be Due To A Fracture?

I fell on a sidewalk and my right shin hit hard 3 weeks ago. Since that time it has remained so swollen between the knee and foot that you can t even press a finger into it...it s tight and shiny. I can walk on it, but it is still as painful as the day it happened. Could this be a cracked bone or stable fracture?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

As the swelling is persistent and it is painful to walk, it could be a hairline fracture.
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance. You can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
