Can The Eyesight Be Restored?

Dear Dr.
I have a nephew who has ITP and is 17 years old. He was in an accident where he was hit on the eye. It took 45 minutes aproximately to get to the hospital. Unfortunately they could not save his eye and now he is blind in one eye. The doctor says the whole nerve died and the eye can not be restored. The doctor says that the damage to his eye has nothing to do with ITP. I think otherwise. Please advice
Sincerely Sean

Dear user,
The situation you described suggest the diagnosis of post-traumatic optic neuropathy. In this condition the optic nerve gets damaged due to the trauma which causes direct or indirect insult to the nerve. Its not possible to get vision restored if the blindness is due to this condition. As far as ITP is concerned, this condition usually does not lead to blindness.
