Can The Abscess In The Belly Button Be Due To Piercing?

Hi, I recently got my belly button pierced on the 13th. I had problems with it, I went back in after the top of my piercing was being what looked like it was being eaten by my skin. The lady took out my piercing and said there was an infection, she squeezed on my wound and put a hoop in it instead. She said if the bump (abscess) got bigger to call her. Light headed, I forgot to ask her where it d be. Right now my piercing is hard on the top whole, and red. It hasn t been pusing, but it has crusted yellow. Now I m a bit nervous that my infection is getting worse without me noticing, I must say it does look and feel a lot better, not looking very good still though. Is there any signs my infection is going away?

Hi

You seem to have developed a localised infection at the site of skin piercing.

Such skin infections are quite common especially when the prosedure is not done in aseptic conditions.

Keep the affected area clean and dry.

Wash it with an antiseptic liquid.

Apply an antibiotic cream.

You might need oral antibiotic if it tends to persist.
