I am a healthy 55-year-old male who was put on Toprol for heart palpitations it has created a host of side effects including ED. I am taking 25 mg and I ve cut that it half over the last four or five days with no problems. I still run and lift weights without any problems should I be worried about having a heart attack.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The Toprol, as you stated, would help with palpitations and may also help with blood pressure, if this is an issues as well.

If your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar are controlled, then this would reduce the risk of a heart attack especially, since you exercise.

You should let your doctor know about the problems that you are having.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
