Can Taking Oxipro Ellite Be Safe During Workouts?

I have been taking OxiPro Ellite for about 12 days now. I don't take it on Fri and Sat because I know I will most likely have a drink that night (or I just take one in the morn). When I workout, which is competitive volleyball for a couple of hours, I sweat bullets and my heart pounds. I'm able to rest and calm myself down, but it does make me nervous. Is this just my body reacting because it's burning fat so rapidly? Or, not to sound dramatic, is my heart going to explode?? I thought you were supposed to work out with them. Thank you in advance for your response. By the way, I'm 27, female, 5'10", 160

Hello and Welcome,
I am happy you wrote to inquire about your symptoms. I can only inform you of the facts and let you decide if your heart problems are related to your weight loss supplement.

Oxipro elite has a long history of being in trouble with the Food and Drug Administration in the US and has been banned numerous times due to the presence of DMAA (a stimulant stronger than caffeine and linked directly to heart problems, liver problems and heart attacks). The company then reformulated their product and hid DMAA (1,3-dimethylamylamine, methylhexanamine ) under the term "geranium extract."

Reformulation was again attempted and Oxyelite was found to have a prescription drug Prozac in the shipment according to one news article.

The product you speak of has on the label DMAA, yohimbe (stimulant), and caffeine. So, what do you think may be behind your anxiety, pounding heart? To answer your question of will your heart explode? The possibility of a heart attack or other heart problems due to all the stimulants present in your supplement may indeed be responsible for your symptoms and possibly impending heart problems.

If you were my client, I would highly encourage you to discontinue supplements containing dangerous and/or excessive stimulants such as the one you mentioned.

No, you are not "supposed" to work out with necessarily anything although there are nutritional approaches and safe supplement to safely increase endurance and strength training.

I hope I have addressed your concern. Best of luck, Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
