Can Taking Methylprednisolone Cause Boils In The Armpit?

MY FIRST OCCASION TO TAKE METHYLPREDNISOLONE FOR FRACTURED VERTEBRAE. I LOVED IT. I STOOD UP STRAIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME AT THE END OF JULY. AT THE CONCLUSION OF TWO 21 DOSE PACKS, IT WAS NOT REFILLED. I DEVELOPED A PEANUT SIZED BOIL UNDER MY ARMPIT LAST WEEK. IT BECAME HUGE, HARD, RED WITH FEVER OVER WEEKEND. LAST NIGHT I HAD AN ABSCESS MOSTLY DRAINED AND PACKED IN TWO PLACES. STILL, FULL IN FRONT. APPROXIMATELY 6 X 6 . COULD THE STEROID BE THE CAUSE OR PART OF IT?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Steroid may not be the direct cause of abscess but it reduces the immune system and creates the favorable condition for bacterial infection if this is not so then infection may flair up because of steroid, when it is the history of bacterial infection then steroid need to be stopped.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
