Can Swollen Eyes Be Attributed To An Infection Caused From Cold Or Surgery?

Hi, I have swollen eyes that have been getting worse over the past three days. It doesn t appear to be allergies but I do have a cold. I also had my wisdom teeth removed which resulted in one dry socket with a bubble that formed. I am wondering if I could have an infection resulting from my cold or oral surgery that spread to my eyes? Do I need antibiotics?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

If your symptoms tend to appear after the extraction of the upper wisdom teeth then it is most probably due to inflammation of the sinuses which can be secondary to the tooth extraction..

As there are large sinuses behind the eyes therefore you are experiencing swelling in the eyes..

So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room and get evaluated and a Sinus x ray can be done to rule out the exact condition of the sinuses..

In case if there is sinus infection then you can be advised to take antibiotics like Augmentin, anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, decongestant nasal spray like Xylometazoline and steam inhalation..
Use a humidifier in your room..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
