Can Switching Over From Lexepro To Effexor XR Cause Hairfall And Grinding Teeth?

Hello! I ve been having some issues lately that I m trying to figure out what is causing them. About 9 weeks ago my Dr. switched me from Lexepro to Effexor XR. It s only a 37.5 dose but within the last probably 5/6 weeks my hair has started falling out (a lot) and I have also noticed I am grinding my teeth terribly at night! I switched from Cymbalta which had been causing terrible sweating that took me almost a year to figure out why to the Lexepro (which made my heart race) and now this. I ve suffered from panic attacks and anxiety for about 15 years now. I was on Paxil for the majority of that time but switched to Cymbalta because my Dr. thought I was becoming to tolerant to the Paxil. Is this normal with Effexor? Cause I really don t know which is worse...Panic disorder in general or panic over losing my hair? (Not to sound vain at all)

Hello,

Mood stabilizers and antidepressants cause hair loss to some extent in some patients, not all. You are suggested to talk to your treating doctor so that the dosage of the medicine prescribed can be monitored so that hair loss gets controlled. To prevent hair loss you should avoid addictions if any, stay away from stressful lifestyle, massage your scalp with almond or coconut hair oil, use selsun shampoo regularly as dandruff triggers hair loss, take balanced food rich in protein, calcium, minerals, etc.

Take Logihair capsules, once daily for 15 days to prevent hair loss and promote new hair growth. Take good for hair. You can consult a dermatologist and get clinically examined. Do relaxing exercises, take food rich in vitamin B5, calcium and magnesium to get rid of grinding of the teeth.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
