Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Intermittent pain is sometimes related to neuralgia, which is nerve related pain. Neuralgia (nerve related pain) can be temporary or permanent and there are different possible causes. It is usually due to neuropathy which is abnormal function of the nerves.
Some of the possible causes include:
(1) diabetes
(2) trauma to the nerves in the area
(3) thyroid disease
(4) infection such as shingles
(5) too high or low levels of vitamin b6 can do it as well
(6) liver or kidney disease
(7) low levels of
vitamin b12 and folate
(8) exposure to toxins
(9) idiopathic- cause is not known
It is not likely related to the heart though if you have a history or family history of
heart disease or
high blood pressure or diabetes or smoking or
overweight or
high cholesterol, the heart should be ruled out as a cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
