General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Mucinex is a mucolytic agent, helps in disintegration of underlying cough situations. However, it is supportive and the main curative approach would be:
- Culture specific antibiotics
- Diuretics (if fluid over load condition)
- General nursing care
- Chest physiotherapy
- Deep breathing exercises
- Avoid smoking if involved

Certain drug resistance cases do requires drainage of pleural fluid with cytology, culture and further assistance accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
