I can understand your worry regarding the long term usuage of omeprazole, actually there is some research that PPI s ie omeprazole may cause increase in levels of beta amyloid in brain ( linked to dementia ) in animal studies , but there is no clear cut evidence in humans. So however, I would suggest you to consult your doctor regarding the stoppage of this drug as it might be required to continue for some more days post surgery as you need to take many medications during that time to prevent gastritis Please check with your physician if he shares my view and if can prescribe these medications to you.
