Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi, i have oral lichen planus (no hepatitis) and light lichen on body (worst in mouth and possibly throat). I have never ever smoked cigarettes in my life and had some alcohol in my 20 s (now51) and havn t drank any in years coz i always got sick everytime i used alcohol so stopped. But, i was a regular pot smoker for 30years and more recently with medicinal card (coz of other painful conditions and didn t want to add too much chemicals). So my question is what is ur opinion on whether it is toxic and a cause to olp? My doctors say no but i know they don t know and i think it s toxic and i should stop immediately! I have phased it out 90% and i have been looking at oils and stuff but i would really like as much opinions on this as possible...thank you...........................OK what $$$ forget it...bullshit!
I can understand your concern. Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) is an autoimmune disorder where body's immune system mounts an attack on the oral mucous membrane and the disorder develops.
There is no known cause of its development yet. However, some allergen, presence of infection, injury to the mouth can increase the severity. It has not been proved yet that alcohol, smoking or other illicit drugs can intensify or soothe the condition, but it always advisable to stay away from them for better physical and mental health.
In addition, my advise to you to you is to keep regular follow up appointments with your doctor or dentist for Oral Lichen Planus has high chances of developing cancer in the areas affected.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
