Can Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Be Treated Through Herbal Or Over-the-counter Medicines?

Greetings, I have a male friend who is diagnosed with PTSD after being sexually molested by a friend and fellow officer 30 years ago. He is extremely anxious and is having recurrent flashbacks of the incident. He is seeing a therapist and a nurse practitioner from the Veterans Association. They have a policy not to prescribe benzodiazepines. What, beside the SSRIs can be prescribed for this? Is there anything over the counter or herbal perhaps that might work?

Hi,

SSRI and beta blockers are usually prescribed drugs for PTSD. Therapy is also very helpful. There is no herbal medicine available which can do better than SSRI. You can always ask your doctor to change the medicine if particular SSRI is not working.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
