Can Obsession And Loss Of Memory Be Treated With Change In Hypertensive Medications?
72 year old male with history of heart attack 7 or so years ago. Diagnosis of narcolepsy. On Metropropol for hypertension. Was diagnosed with sleep apnea, but had complaints of sensation of drowning while using c-pap machine. He is obsessed with religion and becoming very forgetful. Judgment is off. Would a change in hypertensive meds. be in order, such enalapril and triamt/hctz. Also would amanda be beneficial to introduce?
Hello dear welcome to HealthcareMagic Regarding your experience with obsession loss of memory sleep apnea diagnosed with narcolepsy following a history of hypertension with usage of metoprolol I am suggesting that you have developed a neuropsychiatric disorder with affectation of the hippocampus
In view of this please check your blood pressure regularly do the following test Chest x-ray ECG Serum electrolytes CT scan
Meanwhile you will need a multidisciplinary team involving a psychiatric cardiologist and neurologist specialist for further clinical assessment Councelling and adequate drug prescription
Regarding whether altering your hypertensive medications can improve the obsession and memory loss is left with the cardiologist to make such clinical decision so as to prevent self medication and reduced risk of adverse drug reaction
I hope this helps Regards
