Can Intake Of Eliquis Cause Loss Of Strength In Lower Extremities?

My father began Eliquis two months ago, after being on heparin in the ICU unit and Lovinox injections for first weeks at home. He had leg strength, worked with a PT and walked well; however, after beginning the Eliquis he has noticed declining lower extremity function and extreme leg weakness despite attempts to improve leg strength. This development is worrisome since a fall while taking Eliquis could be serious.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Eliquis is a medication to help prevent clotting of the blood and if you father sustained a fall while on eliquis there maybe a risk of bleeding. Being weak from just taking eliquis is unusual. I recommend that your fatehr be seen by his primary care doctor and see if there is something else that is causing his weakness.
