Can Implant In The Arm Cause Constant Periods?

Have a friend at work, she is concerned about her 17 year old daughter. Her daughter started her period at age 10. The periods were normal, but were 3 to 4 months apart. When she was 16 her mother had doctor put implant in her arm to prevent pregnancy. This caused her periods to never stop. The periods were come and go every few days. She had doctor remove implant in arm and they put her on birth control pills. The periods were the same on and off every few days. The doctor increased the pills, but this still has not helped. Should she take her doctor to encrinologist and get her checked out?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Such implants can cause hormonal imbalance, which may lead to periods irregularities. Local pathologies may be ruled out on ultrasound pelvis, as well a gynecologist review but if problem persists, hormonal levels and endocrinologist review may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
