Can Identical Twins Be Of Different Sex?

Hi, my Daughter In Law just informed us today that she is pregnant for twins and due in Feb. 2018. We are ecstatic of course!! Then I asked her if she knew if they were identical or fraternal twins yet. She told me she was told they were identical based on her recent ultrasound. I then asked what they wanted, boys or girls most, to which she answered 1 of each. I chuckled and told her (after 30 years in nursing) that wasn t possible, identicals are always the same sex. She told me the doctor told her that one in one million identicals can be boy/girl twins. I have never heard of this......is it true?

Hi I think generally identical twins are of same sex, but sometimes due to some mutation, different sex can be there. So, this is a rare possibility. So, it can happen. Hope it helps.
