Can Hypoglycemia Be Caused By Taking Glycomet SR 500 Bi-daily With Glimi Save 4?
I am 73 years old. For the last 10 years i was consuming a tablet GLIMI SAVE 4( Initial years, probably GS2) with good result. Last one week I found my sugar level has jumped up suddenly for no reason. My doctor has adviced me to take Glycomet sr 500, 1-0-1 in addition to Glimi Save 4. Can this result in Hypoglycemia at times? And what happens if it occurs during sleep?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern... Yes hypogycaemia could be caused by taking Glycomet SR 500 with Glimi Save 4. Glimisave 4 mg contains glimepride 4 mg. It causes increased secretion of insulin by the pancreas & cause blood glucose level to fall. Glycomet sr 500 contains metformin 500mg in a sustained release form. It increases the utilization of glucose in body & also increases effect of glimepride on reduction of blood glucose. Therefore combined action of Glycomet SR 500 bi-daily with Glimi Save 4 could result in hypoglycaemia at times. You should also keep your blood glucose levels checked regularly. If hypoglycaemia occurs frequently then reduction of dose of glimepride or glycomet may be needed. If hypoglycaemia occurs at night you should take 1-2 teaspoon of glucose dissolved in water & it will make your glucose levels to normal
Refer to your endocrinologist / physician Hope this information helps
