Can High Dose Of Lisinopril And Diuretic Cause Tiredness And Fatigue?

I m 20 years old, and was diagnosed with essential hypertension approx. a year and a half ago. I was started on Lisinopril and then a diuretic (HCTZ) was added. Until 2 weeks ago I was taking Lisinopril HCTZ 20-12.5 MG (combined in one tablet) and felt fine pretty much. But, my dosage was increased to 20-25 MG. Ever since my head feels foggy, I m unusually tired, resting HR is slower and overall just out of it and don t feel like myself. Was wondering if it s possible that my potassium is high. Any answer is much appreciated, thanks in advanced.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Lisinopril can sometimes cause high potassium, but 20 mg is not an especially high dose, and as you said, you felt fine previously on this dose.

When the dose of the HCTZ was increased to 25 mg, you began to have these symptoms, and HCTZ does not cause high potassium, but sometimes causes low potassium.

So you may be having too low of blood pressure, or you may have low potassium, but either way, it sounds like this dose of HCTZ is not working well for you.

So I would suggest talking with your doctor about going back to the previous dose and if you still have high blood pressures, to use a different blood pressure medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
