Can High Blood Sugar Level Be Managed Through Exercise?

Hello Doctor, I am a 35 years old mother of 2 with a amily history of diabetes, I recently did a HB1a and my sugar levels were 7. I generally check at home sugar levels before fasting and it shows 160 - 170. I went to a reputed doctor and he told me to only exercise and no medicines. I am exercising 30 mins a day but in vain. my weight is 65 and I am 5 feet in height. Please prescribe me a medicine. I have no other health issues. thanks a ton

Hi,

Your HbA1c is high. So you can have diabetes problem in which the body cannot utilize or produce enough insulin to decrease glucose level. Exercise and weight reduction help in regaining insulin sensitivity to glucose.

I suggest you investigate with fasting blood sugar estimation and postprandial blood glucose estimation.

If lifestyle change doesn't help then you can take an oral hypoglycemic drug like Glipizide.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
