Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 42 and am very active. I run a few times a week and do instruct and attend exercises classes. Recently I ve started taking medicine for high blood pressure and it still is a little high... Just checked it today and it was 160/104. What I m concerned about is this feeling in my chest especially when I lay down at night... Not painful but a heavy feeling where I feel like I need to cough once or twice a few times before falling asleep. I do notice it now throughout the day as well but not that often. Could it just be my blood pressure ?
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. You might be having incipient left ventricular failure due to high BP.As you lie down ,the venous return to heart increases on recumbent posture and increases pre-load to the heart and causes dry cough due to interstitial edema. Alternatively drug like ACEI (angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitor) used for the treatment of high BP can also cause dry cough..
