Hallow Dear, The very fact your HPT is positive suggests that you are pregnant. However, faint positive test may be an issue of concern. Faint or weak positive pregnancy test may be indicative of one of the following: 1. Test done too early: In first few days after missing a period the levels of hCG are rather on lower side and hence the test results may be weak positive. Subsequently, the test may become strong positive after few days. 2. Pregnancy somewhere outside the uterine cavity (Ectopic Pregnancy): The commonest site for such pregnancies is in the tubes. Such pregnancies do not grow. The tube then ruptures creating a bleeding emergency when surgical intervention with many units of blood transfusion is required. If your menses are more than a week delayed, please get ultrasonography done. If a gestational sac is noted in the uterine cavity, no issue of concern. However, if the uterine cavity is empty in spite of (weak) positive pregnancy test, it is highly suggestive of ectopic pregnancy. If ectopic pregnancy is diagnosed before rupture, it can be treated conservatively or by laparoscopic microsurgery. Please report to your Gynaecologist ASAP. Dr. Nishikant Shrotri
