Can Enterococcus Faecalis Infection Be Contagious?

good afternoon. My wife had a urine culture positive for enterococcus but is asymtomatic.
questions:
1. Is it contagious. I am her husband and we do have intercourse.
2. Does she need to take an antibiotic or just leave it alone? Some studies show antibiotics in asymtomatic patients can be more detrimental than untreated patients.

Thanks for your help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear user,

I really understand your concern.

Urinary tract infection are not sexually transmitted infections, unless urinary tract infection from Chlamydia or Mycoplasma.

If she's asymptomatic, drinking cranberry juice to help fight the infection. If she dislikes the taste of plain cranberry juice, mix it 1:1 with another juice, such as orange juice.

Take care.
