What Causes Enterococcus Faecalis Infection?

My companion has recently been treated for prostate cancer with radiation and for over 9 months now has had reoccurring infections.... the latest is enterococcus faecalist .I am unable to find much information on this bug... His physician is treating with Macrobid .. Which he has been on previously ..seems one bug after another.. would this be due to the radiation ...thank you..Margaret

This can be related to decreased immunity. He may need to get treated according to culture and anti-biograme will show which antibiotic is working best on him in order to avoid using different antibiotics.
