My elderly brother has been eating walnuts his coumadin level went to 3.9 he is concerned it may be the nuts. He stopped them ( though he loves them) & his level this week is 2.7 Are you aware of any information that walnuts have this effect on the coumadin level Many Thanks Nancy

Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Yes, Walnuts known to increase INR 2. Along with coumadin, INR will get disproportionately increased. This could increase risk of internal bleeding, which could be life threatening. 3. Along with Walnuts, green olives, spinach, green beans are also known to increase INR. Hope it helps.
