Can Dog Saliva Sprayed On Face Cause Eye Infection?

I was recently seen for an eye infection in my right eye. Finally after five days, my eye is improving. However, the infection began about 18 hours after a large family dog leapped up on me and sprayed saliva on my face and eye area. How likely is it that the infection was due to the dog saliva or something else from the dog? I had no other symptoms.
