Can Digestion And Breathing Problems With Suffocation In A Newborn Be Treated?

Dear Doctor, one of my relative child born with breathing suffocation, and he is hospitalised in Trichy private hospital. Treatment is going on since last 20 days, even though, the digestion and Breathing problem is there, and not accepting the mother milk, what is the complication for this infant and si it possible to recover from this complication, now we all are lost our hope. Requested your advice

Thanks for asking on HealthCareMagic. Before being able to comment, I would have to ask you whether the baby was born preterm and what was the birth weight of the child. Although there can be a number of causes of respiratory distress in newborn surfactant deficiency or lack of lung maturity is a very common cause which can be managed with ventilation and giving surfactant. The other possible cause could be infection or pneumonia which can be managed with antibiotics. Feeding intolerance is unrelated but often seen. It can be due to immaturity of the gastrointestinal system.
Infections in newborns can be difficult to manage and unless I can know the specific details it is hard for me to comment further.
