General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Yes, an abscess can develop from a dog bite. An abscess is a collection of pus that forms as the body's immune system tries to fight off an infection. When a dog bites, it can introduce bacteria from its mouth into the wound, which can lead to an infection. If the infection is not treated properly or spreads, it can cause an abscess to form.
It is good that the person sought medical attention and is being treated with antibiotics and ibuprofen. It is important to follow the prescribed treatment regimen and keep the wound clean to prevent further infection and the development of an abscess. If the person experiences any worsening symptoms or signs of an abscess such as redness, swelling, or drainage from the wound, they should seek medical attention immediately.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
