Can Althea Pills Cause Nausea?
Hi Doc, I am 28 years old and 4 7 in height and weighing 42 kgs.. I stopped taking Althea pills for almost 3 months now. Last night i had sex with my husband with no protection and I believe I am fertile. So i right away bought Althea pill and take 1 tablet at around 10pm. The following day, I took another 1 pill thinking that I can use Althea as emergency contraceptive. I did not stopped from there and I took again another pill at around 8PM now. I feel nauseous already. Is there is a possibility for me to get pregnant? Or I might be overdose? What should I do because I don t want to get pregnant yet. Thank you very much.

Althea pill contains both cyproterone acetate and ethinyl estradiol which is used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses and in the treatment of acne as well as hirsutism. But like other medications this medication has some side effects of its own. Again, taking this medication too frequently, also may aggravate side effects.
It may cause nausea, vomiting, headache, breast tenderness and enlargement, mood swings, changes in appetite, spotting or breakthrough bleeding between periods, vaginal bleeding, vaginal discharge and many more. Usually these side effects are mild as well as self limiting and go away over time as the body adjusts to this medication.
But if any of these side effects persist for long or bother you then you should consult your doctor first for medical help. Without knowing the date of your last menstrual period, it is difficult to predict whether you will become pregnant or not. If you have any doubt, then you can undergo urine test for pregnancy 7 days after the last missed period.
