Can Alcoholism And Smoking Addiction Result In Personality And Behavioural Issues?

hi my brother has been a alchoholic since years. Beyond alchohol, he has smoking habits too. Initially, he started alchohol as a pleasure with friends. But he is a person with inferiority and other complexes. He has not been able to get financially stable on his own. This problem was not that big until his marriage. But, after marriage this problem has become worse, as he is not earning and that the house expenses are met by his wife who has a government job. Now, he drinks almost daily. I can see some more new features in his behavior. When he is drunk, he is a bit more excited, and is not able to understand things fast. I have even seen him struggling to talk once when he was overdrunk. But even now he doesn't want to quit, and he talks as if he is ready to accept death with pleasure. He does not want to understand the feelings of people who really care for him. Is this stage beyond limit? What are the possible treatments available for him?

We want a sincere advice on what needs to be done from our part before it gets too late. Please help.

Ok.... first, it is really unlikely to have treatment work if the person is not interested in it. Second, other side issues such as depression (which is reliably CAUSED by the brain damage of this much alcohol) will impair judgement and ability to get help.
Then... several helpful things. First having everyone get together with the person for a meeting to have everyone say he needs treatment improves likelihood he will accept treatment. Second, AA meetings and also group meetings with family AND evaluation by a physician (acute detox). These have the best evidence of working. Second best evidence of working are several (safe, cheap) pills CAMPRAL and NALTREXONE (maybe antabuse).
