Can Alcohol Or Cholesterol Medications Cause High SGPT Levels?

I m a male, 43 yrs , wt 103k & just test my sgpt & it reads 100. last November it was 60 & same time i have been prescibe one tablet for chlostrol also as Cholostroll reading at that time was 210 & now its 175 i m a moderate drinker (about 100 - 150 ml 4 days a week) & taking Lagolan as supplimentry daily. so, Doctor my question is what is the reason for my high readings of SGPT? - was it alchohal or cholostrol medecine?

I appreciate your concern for the safety of cholesterol medication.

Well, as a matter of fact both alcohol and cholesterol reducing medication (statin) can increase the SGPT level.
It is the alcohol which is more likely to cause the damage to the liver cells resulting in an increase in the level of SGPT besides other elevated enzymes.
To differentiate it from the statin induced increase in the enzymes other enzyme GGT should be done. GGT is highly specific for the alcohol related liver injury and thus elevation of other enzymes in addition to fatty liver.
