Can Alcohol Consumption Cause Elevation In The GGT Level?

Hi there I just had a liver function test. I don t drink that heavily approx on average 3 units a night I.e 1 pint of 5% larger. The ggt was 250. But I had quite a boozy week before the test. Works leaving dos etc. Could this have given a high ggt or do I need to stop drinking totally. Thanks in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi dear Elevated GGT could be due to high amount of alcohol and also could be due to liver pathology but in your case its mostly due to drinking.
Still its advisable to do the investigation like AST, ALT, ALP and USG Abdomen to find out liver pathology if any. wait for a week's period and do the investigation
Hope this was helpful
Thanks and regards
