Can A Ureteral Stent Cause Swelling And Infection In The Ureter?
I had a 2mm stone put in and then a stent. But the stent hurt extremely bad. So bad, that I couldn t urinate at all cause it caused my left kidney to have extreme knife stabbing pain through it. No pain medicine was working and I even had to go to the hospital cause it was so bad that when I tried to urinate the pain took me to my knees. At the hospital they gave me morphine and that s the only thing that took away the pain and made me able to urinate. But after the medicine wore off I was in even worse pain and I went back to the ER and had the stent pulled out cause it was to much. And but after it was took out I was still in extreme kidney pain and only thing that helped was a warm bath. for days my doctor told me it was just pain from having the stone removed but upon a CT scan four days later showed that my ureter on my left side was comeplety swollen shut and infected and I had to be hospitalized. My urologist still says that the pain with the stent was normal and that I just should of toughed it out. I wanted a second opinion on the severity of the pain, if you think it was normal or not? Could the ureter of become swollen and infected with the stent in? Could that of been why I was in so much pain? My urologist says no. He wants to put the stent back in due to there still being a fragment stuck in my ureter after fluids and flomax. Idk if I ll be able to handle the pain. But if the pain the first time could of been caused by a infection then I may would be able to handle it this time. My urologist I don t think really understands how much pain I was in!
